My Neighbors Are Getting a New Roof. Do I Need a New Roof?

Apr 07, 2020

RoofingWe’ve all been that nosy neighbor. We see a construction truck parked by a nearby house and we peek out the curtain to find out what’s going on. Are they getting new windows, doors, or something else? Perhaps you’ve begun to see neighbor after neighbor undertaking a roof replacement project. It can be common for this to happen in neighborhoods, often because these homes were built around the same time—which means that the roofs will likely begin to see the end of their lifespan together, too.

However, just because all of your neighbors are replacing their roofs doesn’t mean your home is due for this upgrade as well. Before investing in a new roof, consider:

  • The age of your roof – If your roof is nearing its 30th birthday, or if it’s much older, then it may be time to replace it.
  • The way your roof looks – Take a moment to inspect your roof. What do you see? Curling or cracked shingles? Moss or algae growth? Bald spots? Shingles missing entirely? All of these are signs that it’s time for a new roof.
  • Any maintenance issues you’ve experienced – Does your roof need near-constant repairs? Are you continually having to clear off moss growth? These are indicators that your roof may need to be replaced.
