Can You Put Solatubes in a Garage?

When it comes to cooling your home, improving its energy efficiency, and reducing your monthly energy costs, Solatube® products are the perfect solution. Solatube has been developing innovative, clean energy products for more than 25 years, providing homeowners throughout the country with solutions to their lighting and ventilation requirements. From tubular skylights that provide natural light to whole house fans and solar attic fans that ventilate warm air away from the attic, Solatube products can make your home more comfortable while also saving you money — but can they do the same thing for your garage?

If you have a garage with no windows, it can be difficult to keep it cool, especially during the hot summer months. Climate control rarely extends to the garage, whether it’s attached to your home or not. Fortunately, you can install Solatube products in your garage to make it more comfortable. Solatube offers three different types of garage fans:

  • Roof-mounted fans — If your garage has an open ceiling, you can use a roof-mounted fan to expel hot air out through your roof and pull cool, outside air into your garage through the vents.
  • Interior-mounted fans — If there’s a finished living space above your garage, you can install an interior-mounted fan to a side wall where it will pull hot air out as it replaces it with cool air.
  • Powered fans — If there’s an attic over your garage, a powered fan can pull hot air away from the garage and attic and push it through the attic venting, while cool air travels back in through the vents in the garage wall.
